Supporting Carers Week

Standing with local carers during Carers Week 2025

To mark Carers Week 2025, we were delighted to support Richmond Carers Centre to deliver a programme of free activities and workshops for unpaid carers in our local community.

In line with this year’s theme, ‘Caring about Equality’, the initiative highlighted the inequalities unpaid carers often face – such as social isolation, poor health, and financial hardship – while offering opportunities for rest, connection, and recognition.

People from across the Borough took part in a wide range of activities including mindfulness, yoga, art and ceramics workshops, social outings like a boat cruise on the River Thames, and trips to Kew Gardens and the London Wetlands Centre.

“Attending an activity with Richmond Carers Centre feels like the only time that I can do something for myself and feel like a person, rather than a carer. Meeting other carers who feel the same is empowering and the activities are invaluable to me.”

Many of the events filled up quickly, demonstrating the need for more of this kind of support.

“Carers are the backbone of our community – often unseen, but absolutely essential. Supporting Richmond Carers Centre to offer an exciting range of activities and events to celebrate Carers Week reflects OneRichmond’s deep commitment to recognising, valuing, and uplifting those who give so much to others. We are proud to stand alongside local carers and the organisations that support them”

Sue Martineau, Director, OneRichmond

“Support from OneRichmond has enabled Richmond Carers Centre to offer an ambitious programme of activities through Carers Week and the month of June. By working in partnership, we can strengthen our ability to raise awareness of caring, help people to identify as carers and to access much needed support.”

Melissa Wilks, CEO, Richmond Carers Centre

Working with Active Richmond, Richmond Carers Centre also supported other local organisations to run events for around 200 local carers, aimed at reducing isolation and loneliness and offering carers a much-needed break.
